Pass it On: Giving that Lasts

By Anne Calder, Vice President of Development

One of the things I love about my work at the Quad Cities Community Foundation is the opportunity to sit down with people to talk about the lasting impact they want to pass on to their families and their community. Then, we work together—along with their trusted advisors—to turn those hopes into reality. We call this legacy giving.
Giving in a way that extends beyond your lifetime is more than just a donation—it’s a powerful way to ensure your values and passions continue to shape and strengthen your community for years to come. By planning your legacy giving strategically, you can make a meaningful difference while also receiving financial benefits for you and your family.
For many, this type of generosity is a way to support and honor causes you deeply care about—whether it’s education, the arts, healthcare, conservation, or social services. These planned gifts allow your generosity to continue beyond your lifetime, ensuring that the organizations and initiatives that matter most to you remain strong.
There are many ways to leave a lasting imprint, including bequests in a will, charitable gift annuities, or gifts of stock, real estate, or life insurance policies. One of the most impactful ways to create an enduring source of support is through gifting to an endowment fund.
Endowment funds work much like savings accounts—by distributing only a portion of the earnings, they provide sustainable, long-term support for the causes you care about. With the principal remaining intact, your generosity will continue to make a difference for years to come.
No matter how you give back or pay it forward, it’s important to partner with others who share your long-term vision for the future. A conversation with your advisors and local community foundation can help define your goals and build a giving plan that passes on the values you hold dear.
